I hate saying someone got paid because it's a moronic argument, born from political children who rely on this elementary playground defense when they cannot adequately defend their position or are too outclassed by their opponent.
These are the same types that screams "Racist" the moment they get their ass handed to them in a debate. So, with that in mind, let's just drop the BS about a writers getting paid to promote some company's position.
I much prefer to argue that there are a few writers out there that may or may not want to see the Yulin Festival end, but sitting down at their computer, watching their cursor blinking on and off over and over ready to start, but the writer asking himself 'what is there left to say?'
Is there anything actually left to write about concerning the Yulin Festival?
How can any writer draw any attention to one's self if basically all you're about to do is regurgitate the same old story?
The fact is you cannot, so there are only two places to go, defend the indefensible or come up with an angle where you are not necessarily defending the killing of thousands of stolen pets, but at the same time create some controversy so you as a writer will believe you actually matter.
With that, the stupidity of "The more you protest, the more popular the Yulin Festival gets" was born.
Here is what you should always remember, wherever you run into these imbecile stores.
The shop keeper they use as some sort of "source" is a dog meat selling moron that cries “My store’s dog meat sales are much higher than before. This year we are up more than 50 per cent.”
When you read this so called "quotes" which most likely are more a product of the writer's mind rather than that of reality, but for a moment lets pretend that some uneducated jackass Yulin shop keeper indeed utter this nonsense.
The first thing that must do is looked at is the source material, do you honestly believe any shop keeper will say "My business has been cut in half because you damn foreigners" no he will do exactly what any politician who has ever gotten caught doing something they weren't supposed to be doing.
Any writer who uses a Yulin shop keeper as their source material is either ignorant or could care less about the reality of their quote because the "Business couldn't be better" line fits into their agenda of their story, so why bother over analyzing it.
Now lets get real
The "Business is booming" argument would give Mr. Spock a headache for it's mind numbing logic.
Does anyone believe Wildlife Planet, any of the other great websites fighting to end Yulin or one of our favorite organizations The Humane Society International HSI.org would somehow back down?
If this "Yulin Festival is Bigger and Better Than Ever" story was indeed true and there was actual proof that all the demonstrations, all the protests and all the great work that HSI is doing has created a negative effect, then believe me we would be writing about it and we would not be using an uneducated Yulin dog murdering moron as our source.
You would be seeing headlines such as "in 2015, 10,000 dogs and cats slaughtered, In 2016, 15,000 were murdered" or "The Yulin Festival is bigger than ever, How Did We Fail?" or even "With Just Days to Go Before the 2016 Yulin Festival Starts, 20 new slaughter shops have opened"
I am sure HSI or any number of a dozen organizations that rain down on Yulin every June would have been showing videos of how we have all failed.
We as a group would be pivoting toward new tactics to combat this evil festival and we certainly would not continue doing something that has only led to even more death.
I have always relied on history to tell me what is actually happening behind the scenes. No matter the subject, history has shown the same thing over and over and over again.
Lets take for example the Disastrous Iraq war that The United States started.
Forget the fact of what led us into it, the fact remains when things started going south all you heard and read about was how well things were going. When they went really bad all you heard about was "How REALLY great the war was going"
At some point, even if you truly believe things were going well information leaks out that shows you things are not as well off as you had believed and then the inevitable "We are thinking of changing tactics" story lines starts to make an appearance, to soften the blow when they do, do their pivot.
So anyone claiming that there has been some cover up or information is not really getting out, and the Yulin Festival is bigger than ever, is full of it.
Let's review some of the headlines WE HAVE actually seen over the past year or so?
Now of course the last two were stories using quotes from Yulin Officials, but just two years ago these same Yulin Officials were screaming "You have no right to tell us what to do" or "You eat cows, pigs and chickens" and of course our favorites "you are racist" and "It's a Chinese Tradition."
Point being even if these Yulin Officials were full of it when claiming "There will be no 2016 Yulin Festival" their quote spoke volumes about the effectivness the protests have had.
The fact is if these protests, stories and petitions were not having an effect there is no way the largest food delivery service in China drops Dog-Meat off the menu
The only thing slower to change than politicians are companies because companies care only about money. It took 50 years for big tobacco to even admit there may be some small, miniscule link between cigarettes and cancer. Now mind you to this day they still deny there is a strong link, but to even get them to admit there was maybe, possibly, could be a small chance was a tremendous victory.
When I see the largest food delivery service in China make that big of a change, knowing it's competitors have yet to follow suit, it speaks volumes about how big of an impact we have had.
The only thing that will hurt the movement to end the Yulin festival, and the dog and cat meat trade is our complacency.
If these writers really need to find something to write about Yulin, here are a few suggestions
If you truly are a dog meat eating savage supporter who believes stealing pets and boiling them alive is somehow a good thing, then man up and write what you believe in and stop wasting our time tiptoeing around the subject.
If you want to write silly stories like "Protesters are hurting the cause" because you do not want your name to be caught on the wrong side of history when she makes her final judgement on dog meat, then do us a favor and shut up.
