Sita The Elephant Departs Far Too Soon
Over 50-Years As An Abused Circus Elephant, Sita Was Only Able To Enjoy 18-Months Of Freedom Before Passing Away
For over 50-years of her life, Sita was a circus elephant slave before being rescued and brought to an Elephant sanctuary. Sita passed away just 18 months after taking her first breath of freedom, leaving the charity that rescued her devastated.
Wildlife SOS was the charity that rescued Sita from a Circus life of appalling neglect after vets warned that she had just weeks to live if she remained in the torturous conditions.
Alongside her sisters Mia and Rhea, she had been shackled for 56 years and forced to perform for circus audiences in Tamil Nadu. The elephants had been underfed, left without water and were found swaying their heads, which among scientist and Veterinarians is a clear sign the animal is under terrible stress.
