After a 22-month gestation period, everyone associated with the Chester Zoo, the people of Britain and animal lovers all over the world were anticipating the newborn's arrival.
No one had to wait long for the awe inspiring moment because after being in labor for only 20 minutes, the big event happened, as zoo keepers watched on closed circuit television (CCTV) as the baby dropped onto the soft sand.

With encouragement from it's mother the baby was up on his feet within a few minutes
Elephants herds are close knit and this was clearly evident when Sithami's Hi Way family herd excitedly gathered around to see and touch her and her newborn. The baby was the second Asian elephant male calf born at the Chester Zoo, in December, Indali came into this world Andy McKenzie, team manager of elephants at Chester Zoo said: Two births in one month is momentous for our Hi Way family herd of Asian elephants. It's great for each of them to have a playmate, not to mention one-year-old Nandita, who we're sure will enjoy pushing the youngsters around for a while. 'Equally importantly, this is magnificent event for the conservation breeding program.' The elephant is the world's largest land animal, although an Asian elephant is marginally smaller than its African cousin.
