The Yulin dog meat festival has only existed since 2009. The Yulin festival was started in hopes of bringing in additional funds for the city.
The festival started growing in popularity with those who care less about eating dog meat, but rather they attended in order to protest the world view of this festival. Fact #4 - Yulin is Filthy
Beyond the slaughtering and the cruelty that takes place, there are serious health concerns with the dog meat served at the Yulin Festival.
These dogs and cats are tortured and that doesn't start when they arrive at Yulin. The torture starts when these dogs and cats are transported in small cages and the animal are crammed into cages in the most disgusting and upsetting way. The animal defecates onto the other animals that they are stuffed in the cage with them. The all quickly develop health issues from the lack of food, water and a clean environment.
These poor souls are slaughtered in often poorly maintained, filthy kitchens that have little government health department oversight. It's not hard to find a picture of one of these butchers, cooking a dog without a shirt, wearing a greasy, filthy apron, smoking a cigarette while chopping away on a table that is covered with blood and feces.

Since China has ZERO fams in all it's country that raises Dogs and Cats as 'exit animals' how can they possibly supply upwards of 25,000 dogs and 5,000 cats?
Many of the dogs are stolen or sold by illegal dog meat trade operators in other countries like Vietnam and India.
